Indoor Waterpark

History

The first ever indoor waterpark was built in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada in 1985 at the West Edmonton Mall. It is called the World Waterpark and is over 200,000 sq ft (19,000 m2). It was a success for the mall. The first indoor waterpark in the U.S. was built in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin at the Polynesian Hotel. They built it in 1994 so it could make the Dells a “year round destination”, as the Wisconsin Dells tourist season was from Memorial Day to Labor Day before it was built.

The Indoor Waterpark Craze

Since the opening of the first park, the indoor waterpark business has become increasingly more popular, especially for the Edmonton area in Canada, and in the Wisconsin Dells in the U.S., which proclaims itself as the “waterpark capital of the world”. The Dells has 5 Waterpark Resorts that have at least 1 waterpark bigger that 55,000 sq ft (5,100 m2). This includes the Kalahari Resort (Wisconsin’s Largest Indoor Waterpark), Chula Vista Resort (Lost Rios), Great Wolf Lodge, Wilderness Territory (Wild West, Klondike Kavern, Wild WaterDome), and the Hotel Rome at Mt. Olympus. Wisconsin has the most indoor waterparks in one state. Other states in the U.S., especially in the midwest, are building more indoor waterparks separate or to existing hotels so they can become a year-round destination. More waterparks are also being built in Canada, Europe and Asia.

Hotels With Honeymoon Suites

After planning the perfect wedding, most newlyweds want to unwind on the perfect honeymoon. And for many couples, finding a hotel with a honeymoon suite is the perfect solution.

Many newlyweds look for hotels with honeymoon suites because of the added extras that come with it. Most honeymoon suites are equipped with a king-sized (or larger bed), a separate sitting room with a love seat, and a bathtub built for two. They also include some other honeymoon perks, like a bottle of champagne and chocolate dipped strawberries, or a night of room-service included with the suite. Traditionally, honeymoon suites also have unique décor, making the suite look like the perfect romantic getaway. If you are booking a honeymoon suite, ask the hotel what the suite comes with. You may find that they offer a “romance package” that may include time in the hotel’s spa, a romantic dinner for two, or breakfast in bed. These can make a honeymoon suite an attractive option.

While hotels used to all have them, hotels with honeymoon suites are becoming fewer and farther between. Most hotels feel like a more traditional suite is a better use of their space, and offering a honeymoon package in that traditional suite will still meet the needs of newlyweds. But if you want more, there are hotels with newlywed suites available at some of the more popular honeymoon locations in the United States. The Poconos is well-known for its honeymoon suites. Ask if they offer a romance or honeymoon package when you book, and you may find that you can get a better deal than with a suite that is specifically for honeymoons. And don’t forget to tell them at the front desk that you are on your honeymoon when you check in; most hotels will go out of their way to make your visit a special one.

How to Enjoy the Outdoor Life of NEPA in any Season

Northeastern Pennsylvania, commonly referred to as NEPA, is bustling with activity no matter the season. As coal mining declined decades ago, so did the population. Northeast PA developed a reputation as an area in which the future was bleak. In the heart of coal country, NEPA was littered with strip mines and abandoned coal breakers and railroad beds. A decline in population in the city of Scranton in particular left a dim outlook on residents who remained. But just as population and the area’s largest industry declined, a new light began to emerge at the end of the train tunnel. It was pride. Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, and the Poconos have grown in many ways in the years since coal had faded away. New construction, new ideas, mine reclamation projects, tourism, and an influx of New York and New Jersey residents looking for a somewhat quieter way of life have caused our NEPA to surge with activity.

Activity in the outdoors, in particular, has blossomed in our parks and recreation areas. There are new walking and hiking trails specifically the “Rails to Trails” program which has reclaimed old railroad property and transformed the abandoned railroad beds into scenic, relaxing trails for walking, hiking, and jogging. Sections of trail can be found throughout NEPA along both the Lackawanna and Susquehanna river and through numerous towns and residential areas as well as woods, private areas. The trails are especially busy in spring, summer, and autumn months when weather is cooperating.

The lakes and reservoirs of NEPA are also bustling in the warmer seasons, and for ice fisherman, even in the winter. NEPA is home to Lake Wallenpaupack, Pennsylvania’s largest man-made lake. This one lake in particular draws thousands annually for boating and watersports and even comes with its own islands. Further south is Harvey’s Lake another one of Northeastern PA’s premiere lakes for watersports and boating. Smaller lakes and reservoirs are too many to list but fortunately they are sprinkled throughout NEPA.

For the music lover it gets even better… Northeast PA has its own amphitheater on Montage Mountain which features top name entertainers year after year. This, of course is a pay-as-you-go venue but there’s plenty of music elsewhere in the area that doesn’t cost a penny. Nay Aug park occasionally features outdoor summer concerts open to the public. The term “fat farm”, as also with the term “fat camp”, carries with it a decidedly pejorative tone, but does that mean the concept behind them is bad? Indisputably not, as it turns out. The difference between a weight loss camp (or fat camp) and a weight loss resort (or fat farm) is simple: the former is for children and teens, the latter for adults. Both provide accommodations, fresh and delicious supervised meals, trained health and fitness professionals on staff (usually including a health clinic or at least a nurse on premises), and lots of supervised exercise.

Most weight loss camps for kids and teens include nutrition classes, supervised aerobic activities, and regular weigh-ins, and report an average weekly weight loss ranging from 2 to 6 pounds. In a world where overweight people are besieged by outside judgment, these weight loss resorts and camps provide an atmosphere free of judgment, where a person is valued for who they are and encouraged to be all the desire to be.

4th Annual Pocono Mountains Film Festival Pays Tribute to 70′s Film Stars

It’s lights, camera and plenty of action at this year’s 4th Annual Pocono Mountains Film Festival (PMFF) that will take place August 3 – 5. The festival will be held amid the lush splendor and natural beauty of the beautiful Pocono Mountains resort city of Tannersville, PA. All events and activities will take place at the posh Chateau Resort and Conference Center. The 3-day festival will showcase full-length feature and short films that represent some of the best independent cinema from around the world.

This annual VIP banquet ceremony honors special individuals for their lifetime contributions to our culture and society.
